Overview. This is aspensite.org’s portal to news stories, and press releases relating to the ecology and/or management of aspen and species closely identified with aspen habitats. Aspensite.org users are invited to submit copies of  and/or links to news stories for inclusion in the database.

The link below provides access to a database of news stories, or articles found in non-scientific magazines.  The database can be view in its entirety or searched by title, date, state location, or keywords to the specifics of the news story or article. Each record can additionally be examined in detail for location of  publication details, abstracts about the news story, links to the article, the authors and their contact info. • Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation signs 260,000 acres Stewardship Agreement with the U.S. Forest Service and U.S. Bureau of Land Management in Wyoming.

Older news but still significant

• Northern California Society of American Foresters Aspen Petition Adopted. California Board of Forestry adopted a new rule on behalf of aspen management on private lands at its September meeting in Redding. The new rule will be posted shortly. For information contact webmaster@aspensite.org

• Major die back of aspen noted in Rocky Mountains--The press has picked up the story (September 2006) that there may be  a significant decline in some aspen stands in southern Colorado. Wayne Shepperd, RMRS, is quoted regarding the event. Aspensite.org launches page dedicated to this issue. RMRS announces it will convene a summit on die-off issue

• Rocky Mountain National Park Draft Elk and Vegetation Management Plan/EIS is released. Comment period 4/20-7/04/06 (See News Story Database for stories about this action).

• Eastern Idaho Working Group's efforts get great press!
