Overview. This is the Aspen Delineation Project’s portal to conferences, field workshops, and training event relating to the ecology and/or management of aspen and the species closely identified with aspen habitats. The database of these events contains upcoming event as will as a history of former events. It will also provide links to proceedings or reports that were published as outcomes of an event. 2008  Aspen Events

  • Northern Rockies Aspen Conference is rescheduled for June 23-25,2009 . Originally scheduled for October 1-3, 2008 the conference has been rescheduled because of the budgeting crunch due to 2008 fire suppression costs.Coordinating by the USDA Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Research Station, and The University of Montana, College of Forestry. This event is rescheduled to be held i Butte Montana as originally planned.
  • SUDDEN ASPEN DECLINE SUMMIT. Sudden Aspen Decline (SAD) is currently affecting thousands of acres of aspen throughout the western U.S. This meeting sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Research Station and Rocky Mountain and Intermountain Regions of the U.S. Forest Service was convened to share information on SAD and discuss research and management activities to deal with SAD. The meeting was held at the on the Natural Resources Research Center campus in Fort Collins. Agenda and Logistic information   February 12 and 13, 2008, Ft. Collins, CO.

The overarching objectives of this field seminar was to provide stakeholders with an understanding of  (1) aspen ecology and contemporary resource issues, (2) management options for improving the ecological viability of aspen habitats, (3) techniques for monitoring effectiveness of management (4) and aspen management in the context of larger landscape scale restoration opportunities.  Non-governmental organizations, private land owners, permittees, and state wildlife agencies were invited to join the Aspen Delineation Project, Sierra Forest Legacy, and Lassen National Forest resource managers and their collaborators including researchers from University of California and PRBO Conservation Science, and aspen scientists from the Forest Service’s Rocky Mountain Research Station in an open discussion that it is hoped will result in a common understanding of aspen issues. Aspen Management in Modoc County (California), September 10-11, 2007. The BLM Surprise and Alturas Field Offices, Modoc National Forest, and Aspen Delineation Project cosponsored an day long aspen field seminar on September in Modoc County. The tour starts in Cedarville, Ca and examined aspen management issues in the Great Basin and Warner Mountains. Wayne Shepperd and Dale Bartos, aspen research scientists facilitated the event. Grazing Lands Forum: Livestock grazing on state lands: what are the consequences?

The Washington Native Plant Society held a workshop on public lands grazing in Washington. September 26, 2007, 7:30 - 9:30 p.m,  Yakima Convention Center

RESTORING THE WEST CONFERENCE 2007 Sagebrush Steppe Restoration September 18-20, 2007, Utah State University, Logan, Utah. This conference examined these important ecosystems, why they are declining, and what can and is being done about that decline. It was  directed to restoration managers and researchers, including public and private land managers, landowners, and others.

  • Nevada Chapter-Society of Range Management (JUNE2007)- Smith Creek Ranch, in the Desatoya Mountains of central Nevada, was the site for the Nevada Section summer range tour. Manager Duane Coombs, recipient of SRM’s Outstanding Young Range Professional Award at the 2007, conducted an open-ended and wide-ranging tour planned encompassing a variety of factors faced by both range and ranch managers (Including aspen management).
  • Society of Range Management, Aspen Symposium  The Aspen Delineation Project and the Nevada Aspen Working Group sponsored an an aspen symposium in conjunction with the Society of Range Management's Annual Meeting. Reno, Nevada, Thursday, February 15, 2007
  • In January, the Eastern Idaho Aspen Working Group held a evening seminar at the Plant Sciences Lecture Hall on the Idaho State University campus in Pocatello, Idaho.  The program for the meeting include 1 ) lessons learned from aspen restoration projects in southeast Idaho and 2) three aspen projects that are being considered for the Montpelier Ranger District of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest
